New Life Academy of Excellence PTSC

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you and your families to New Life Academy of Excellence (NLAE). As the PTSC Board members, it is our responsibility to talk with you about getting involved in the school. But first, since this is the first time at NLAE for many of you, we think that it is important to explain what the PTSC is all about.

It is important to note that every family is invited to be a member of the NLAE PTSC. Our annual membership dues are $10 per family. In fact, all parents or guardians of children attending NLAE, as well as each member of the professional staff, can be members of the Parent Teacher Student Council and are encouraged to participate in all its activities. We are an independent organization and we do not belong to any state or national affiliation, or support any political platforms and we keep all of the funds that we raise for our school. The NLAE PTSC’s mission is to promote open communication and understanding between parents and staff of the school. Our primary objective as a PTSC is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child.

We do many wonderful things as a PTSC. Some of our accomplishments and activities are the purchase of the initial equipment for a school library, fall and spring festivals, bingo night, teacher appreciation week, and helped defray school field trip transportation costs. We also do many other things. But you can imagine, to meet all the goals that we have, we need ACTIVE participation,

This is where YOU come in. Now we truly understand how many commitments most families have and the apprehension that volunteering may bring. Some questions come to mind such as: How much time are we talking about here? Will I be required to take on event or committee responsibilities? Or something as simple as, what exactly is required of me? All of these are very normal. We would like to assure you that there are many ways to reach the required 20 volunteer hours per family. Any time that any individual is willing to offer is extremely valuable! We also understand that in today’s world it is increasingly more difficult to be able to find time to give, even one to two hours a month. Volunteering doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. Whatever your time schedule and interests, we have need of you. We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day or that don’t even involve coming to the school at all.

We hope that you can find the time to become an active and involved member of our school community. Studies have shown that when parents get involved in their children’s education, grades go up, test scores increase, there are fewer discipline problems and children are more likely to succeed in their future academic endeavors. Parents are welcome to attend our PTSC meetings on the following dates, which can help them understand the role of PTSC in supporting the school.
