    5th grade Newsletter week of 10/10/24- 10/18/24:

Fall Break begins Thursday 10/10 - Monday 10/18

Math 

• Students will continue converting standard measurement (length, capacity and weight)
• Students will work on making and using line plot to plot information
• We are finishing Unit 1 - prepare for unit assessment next week

Language Arts/Writing

• We will continue Esperanza Rising- discussing elements of fiction (exposition, rising action, climax, resolution)
• We will highlight UDHR and discuss where the characters rights have been violated
• We will be focusing more on writing in Unit 2- writing about characters point of view
• Spelling Words: unstable, unemployed, unfriendly, unclean, uncivil

Science: 

Students will continue physical/ chemical change and prepare for Unit III Assessment

Social Studies

• This week students will continue working in unit 2: Turn of the Century. We will be talking about how America changed post civil war to a more industrialized nationfinishing this unit discussing technology and changes to the United States at theturn of the century

Make sure that students read at least 30 minutes each night.

Important Dates/ Reminders for the week:

• End of First Nine Weeks: We are at the nine week mark! We are half way through the first semester. STudents will be taking their content assessments and next week will be taking District Assessments for Math, Science and Social Studies.
